Why is Acupuncture so popular?
It gets results
Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of therapy and having stood the test of time it continues to demonstrate effectiveness today. Study after study has shown it to be effective for a wide range of health conditions. Because it amplifies your body’s natural healing mechanisms, it can help in virtually any situation.
It’s very relaxing
Many people fall asleep treatment is so deeply relaxing.
It’s very safe
Acupuncture is proven to be one of the safest therapies available and is used by millions of people all over the world on a daily basis. Only sterile single-use needles are used and are safely disposed of after your treatment.
It’s incredibly powerful
It’s actually your own body doing the work not the needles! Your body is an amazingly powerful healing tool, the needles simply amplify and direct your body’s own vast natural healing resources.
How does it work?
Calms and balances your Nervous system
When your nervous system is calm, other body systems regulate and calm down too. Your hormonal system, immune system, digestive, and circulatory systems are all effected. This promotes circulation, nutrient absorption and hormonal balance as well as helping reduce inflammation.
Promotes And Regulates Circulation
Acupuncture increases blood flow to the body tissues that need the most support. This means important tissues like your thyroid, kidneys, liver, adrenals, ovaries, and others are able to function optimally.
Promotes Healing
Acupuncture stimulates your body’s own healing processes, repairing and restoring cells and tissues. It utilises the powerful and vastly healing potential of your own body – it really is amazing!
Long Term Health Benefits
People who have acupuncture regularly over a period of time find that their body begins to undergo positive long lasting changes. They begin to feel better in themselves on a deep level and more able to reach their potential and live their life as fully as possible.
On a physical level this may be simply being out of pain or discomfort but ultimately the aim is to begin to come to a deep ease and acceptance with who you are fundamentally.
This differs greatly from the Western Medical approach of surgery or drugs which represent a sudden and drastic change that your body may not be able to sustain (although acupuncture works very successfully in conjunction with the Western Medical approach to help support the body alongside more conventional treatment).
Disclaimer: You will never be told to stop (or made to feel ashamed about) taking medications. Emily will work with you on whatever level you are comfortable with to safely and effectively get the results you want. No judgment or pressure.
Common Questions
Does it hurt?
It’s not painful although you may experience warmth, heaviness, tingling, or other sensations in and around the needle site.
Where do you put the needles?
That depends from person to person but most points are on the lower arms and legs, back and stomach. If you’re ever uncomfortable being needled in a particular area there’s never any pressure.
Is there any risk of infection?
Unlike hypodermic needles (used for injections and to take blood), acupuncture needles aren’t hollow and are much much thinner so there is generally no bleeding. They are sterile and disposed of after a single use so there’s no risk of infection.
How often will I need treatment?
Weekly or fortnightly treatment is normal to begin with. For more serious conditions (like significant chronic pain) twice a week may be better to start.
How long will I have to keep coming?
Emilys goal is to get results efficiently and quickly so you won’t need continual follow up appointments. This usually starts with weekly or fortnightly appointments for six sessions and reduce down from there. However many people enjoy their treatments so much that they continue to come monthly or every six weeks for maintenance appointments.
What about nutrition, diet, supplements and herbal remedies?
Chinese Medicine (the medical system of which Acupuncture is a part) has a well established and advanced system of nutritional therapy so you’ll receive dietary advice as part of your treatment. If it will benefit you relevant supplements and herbal remedies may also be recommended.
What other support can I access?
Emily believes it’s important to help her patients make lasting improvements to their health, and this often means taking action outside as well as inside the treatment room. You will have free access to an app which gives you an individually tailored self-care programmes in the form of videos, audio recordings, articles and recipes.
